What a receipt should show

A good receipt answers the questions a customer or their accountant will ask later:

  • Who was paid and who paid
  • What the payment was for, item by item
  • How much was paid, including any VAT
  • The date of payment and how it was made (cash, card, bank transfer)
  • A receipt number, so it can be found again

Each receipt gets its own number, separate from your invoice numbers, so the two sequences never clash.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between an invoice and a receipt?

An invoice asks for payment and says when it is due. A receipt confirms that payment has been made: who paid, how much, when and how. Switch between the two at the top of the form; your details carry over.

Is it really free, with no watermark?

Yes. The PDF downloads on the first click with no watermark, no email address and no account. The site is supported by one labelled sponsor link on the page, never by locking the download.

Where are my details stored?

Only in your own browser, on this device. The PDF is made in your browser too, so your client list, bank details and amounts are never sent to a server. Untick “Remember my details” or use “Forget everything saved here” to clear them at any time.

What invoice number should I use?

Each invoice needs a unique number, and it is good practice (and required for VAT invoices) to number them in sequence. The generator suggests the next number automatically and moves the counter on each time you download, so you don’t have to keep track.

Can I add my logo?

Yes. Add a PNG or JPG of any size; it is resized in your browser so the PDF stays small. Your logo is remembered for next time along with your business details.
